“The King that faithfully shows judgment to all people, his throne shall be established forever,” Proverbs 29:14.

There is something about leaders and leadership that captivates us.

Maybe it is the desire for power or control. For many, maybe it is because we are called to lead. We look up to successful leaders who have made lasting impressions on the hearts of mankind.

We admire a leader who displays humility and concern towards all men, without attitude or superiority. God has always used leaders for His purpose, both in His kingdom and in civil government. Some civil leaders have impressed us with their clear stand on certain principles, such as Abraham Lincoln. He created the Emancipation Proclamation, which announced that at the beginning of 1863 all slaves were freed, including those in the states still in rebellion. Another is Barack Obama who signed into law the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA), nicknamed Obama Care, for all people on March 23, 2010. In the Kingdom of God, we also have great leaders, including: John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ, who saw the Spirit descend like a dove and explicitly preached that Jesus is the son of God; the Apostle Paul, who established the churches for God; and Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World, who sacrificed His life to redeem mankind to the Father. Matthew 20:28 says: “Even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Great leadership is found in the person and mission of Jesus Christ. He deserves to be recognized as the greatest leader in history. Jesus led by example, and all truly great leaders are to do the same. “When you were little in your own sight, you were made the head of many tribes,” 1 Samuel 15:17.

Great leadership is recognized by those who observe your lifestyle, love for humanity, integrity, and respect for others. When you look into the mirror of life do you picture a great leader—one who can lead, knowing you have been appointed by God? Or do you see one that is just eager for power and prestige?

Establish a life of love for others, humility, respect, honor, and kindness so that your legacy will be known as one of the greatest leaders.
