Jim Shulman wins vice mayor election in decisive victory

Vice Mayor Jim Shulman

Jim Shulman defeated Republican challenger Sheri Weiner for vice mayor in a decisive race last Thursday. When the votes were counted, Shulman had won 65% of the vote.

Shulman will finish the term of former Vice Mayor David Briley, who was elected mayor in a special election following the resignation of Mayor Megan Barry. Shulman and Weiner were forced into a run-off when neither candidate was able to secure more than 50% of the vote in the General Election.

As anticipated, turnout for the election was low, due to the large number of elections this year, spurred by the resignation of former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry.

“My hearty congratulations to newly elected Vice Mayor Jim Shulman,” tweeted Mayor Briley upon hearing of Shulman’s win. “I look forward to continuing to work with you in your new role for the betterment of the city.”
