Fisk University celebrates Homecoming 2018 Sunday, November 4 through Saturday, November 10. Their theme this year is A Royal Affair. Expect to experience the fun and comraderie of an historically black college in full effect. Fisk has activities planned for returning alumni, as well as current and future (prospective) students and friends of the historic school, Nashville’s first University. The university’s Homecoming week celebrates long-standing traditions with a Royal Coronation and Ball, concerts, sports events, a fashion show, and of course, parties.
The schedule of festivities begins Sunday, November 4 with the Homecoming Chapel Service in Clinton B. Fisk Memorial Chapel at 9:00 AM. The SGA Oratorical Contest is at 4:00 PM in the Little Theater, followed by a Homecoming Kickoff at 10:00 PM to close out the first day.
Monday’s scheduled activities include a Fisk Family Reunion from 11:00 AM ’til 3:00 PM, followed later that night by the Silent Party from 9:00 PM until 1:00 AM in the John Hope and Aurelia Franklin Library ($5 entry fee).
Tuesday’s schedule includes Election Day shuttles to the polls from 7:00 AM ’til 2:00 PM. A Fashion Show runs from 7:00 PM ’til 10:00 PM in the Cravath Hall Rotunda.
Wednesday’s scheduled events include The Fisk Day of Service from 11:30 AM ’til 1:30 PM in the Multipurpose Room of Adam K. Spence Hall. The Pop-Up Shop is that day from 9:00 AM ’til 6:00 PM in Crosthwaite Hall (for females) and New Livingstone (for males). Mr. & Miss Fisk Coronation is at 6:00 PM in the Clinton B. Fisk Memorial Chapel, followed immediately by the Coronation Ball.
Thursday’s slate begins with the Mr. & Miss Fisk Tea 2:00 PM – 4 PM in the Appleton Room of Jubilee Hall and continues with the Fisk Sports Hall of Fame Reception in The Lounge of Adam K. Spence Hall from 6:00 PM ’til 8:00 PM. The Gold & Blue Scholarship Bash: A Benefit for Fisk University by the Nashville Fisk Alumni Association goes from 8:00 PM until 11:59 PM CST at W.O. Smith Music School; 1125 – 8th Avenue South; Nashville, TN 37203. Tickets this year are $60 single; $750 for a table.
Alternatively that night, there is the Ultimate Kickback Fest event on campus from 9:00 PM – 2:00 AM; entry fee only $1.00.
Friday morning, November 9, events start with the Fisk Sports Hall of Fame Luncheon from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Appleton Room of Jubilee Hall ($25 per person; all are welcome). The Pep Rally follows at 1:00 PM, until 2:30 PM, in the Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium. Friday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Fisk University alumni and guests will enjoy the ‘Most Notorious Day Party’ in the Cravath Hall Courtyard. Finish the night with Fiskites & Frittatas: Midnight Breakfast at 11:59 PM in The Lounge of Adam K. Spence Hall.
Saturday’s Homecoming ‘Millenium Mixer’ Brunch 2018 with Fisk University Dr. Kevin D. Rome, Sr., for Fisk University alumni runs 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the John W. Work home on the Fisk campus; advance RSVP required. Also at 11:00 AM tailgating will commence all across The Yard, leading up to the Homecoming Parade at 1:00 PM. Homecoming basketball games against the visiting Morris College Hornets are at 3:00 PM (Lady Bulldogs) and 5:00 PM (Bulldogs/mens team) in the Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium (Admission $30).
The Get Down Finale is the final campus event Saturday, November 10, in the Cravath Hall Courtyard; advance RSVP online is required.
Additionally, throughout the weekend, various Fraternity and Sorority groups will be celebrating, as well, and there will be private events at locations throughout the Metro area. Have a Happy Homecoming, Fiskites!
