Louis York and The Shindellas to play the Franklin Theater

Louis York and The Shindellas.

Coined one of the most electric performances by the Recording Academy for their live set at the 2018 ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, Louis York and The Shindellas are bringing the experience to the Franklin Theater at 8:00 pm on November 15th.

Weirdo Workshop Presents: Weirdos in Franklin is a magnetic experience that redefines an expression of freedom through the arts/music. Behind some of the biggest names and biggest song of the last decade, Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony of Louis York have put together an unforgettable night of original musical works. It’s a genre-bending, colorful, all-inclusive experience that brings together an entire community.

After working with some of the most powerful women in the music business, including Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson and Britney Spears, the dynamic duo were driven to make a statement. That artful assertion was made with The Shindellas.

The Shindellas are a band of truth tellers. With a sound born somewhere between yesterday and tomorrow, they’re bringing real talk back to music. Shindellas members Stacy Johnson, Tamara Williams, and Kasi Jones describe themselves as “Three women who have come together in sisterhood to sing songs about self-love, self-worth and self-respect,” and they have just released their debut single “Reconsider.”

Written and produced by multi-Grammy nominated songwriting-production team Louis York (Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Fantasia), “Reconsider” is catchy mid-tempo, old – school – meets – new – school song with contemporary lyrics such as “Don’t let anyone tell you who you should love / baby this is your life / it’s okay to like / the whole rainbow / I don’t care who you love / as long as / he or she fills you up / and never drags your heart / through the mud / so if you don’t feel like a winner / reconsider” packed in retro doo-wop, Motown-style beats.”

“Creating a platform for better representation of black women in music is very important to us,” Harmony and Kelly said in a release about the Shindellas. “We’ve heard the disrespectful opinions being shared on conference calls and in board meetings. We’ve seen what gets the green light and what doesn’t. We see the void in popular music. We’ve worked with the very best women in the music business so it’s only fitting that Louis York makes a statement… through art. That statement is The Shindellas! We hope people will really listen to “Reconsider,” love it and add it to their lifestyles.”
