You are invited to join the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. as they meet in Nashville on the weekend of March 28 – 31. You are specifically only invited to attend their only public event, the Public Meeting, and a reception following, which take place on Friday evening, March 29.
The South Central Province (SCP) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. consisting of chapters in in Kentucky, Tennessee and Northern Mississippi will convene in Nashville, Tennessee for its 74th Province Council, March 28 – 31, 2019, at the Sheraton Music City Hotel, 777 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214.
The Council is hosted by the Nashville Alumni, Kappa (Meharry Medical College), Alpha Theta (Tennessee State University) and Nu Rho (Vanderbilt University) Chapters of the Fraternity. James E. Dukes is chairman of the 74th SCP Council and assures this will be one of the better Province Councils nationwide. This time is specially dedicated to handle the business of Kappa. Members across the world have been busy working for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the 74th Council provides the platform for presentations and updates.
In addition to the South Central Province Polemarch (regional president) Leonard E. Clemons and representation from active (college campus) and alumni (graduate) chapters of the South Central Province, they are expecting the 33rd Grand Polemarch, Thomas L. Battles, Jr., to attend along with key members of his administration. Everyone loves to visit Nashville!
At the Public Meeting, which begins promptly at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 29th at the Sheraton Music City Hotel, the Nashville Alumni Chapter will recognize four of Nashville’s leaders with National Fraternity Awards for non-members. Receiving the “Public Interest Award” will be Senator Brenda Gilmore; Mrs. Barbara Murrell will receive the “Making a Difference Award”; receiving the “Greek Life Service Award” will be Tennessee State University President Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover; and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” will be presented to Reverend Edward Sanders. Following this event will be a reception honoring the Kappa Chapter for 100 years of operation at Meharry Medical College, where it was the tenth chapter of the fraternity, founded in 1919, not long after the fraternity itself was founded at Indiana University in 1911. These two events, the public meeting and the reception, are open to the public and you are invited.
Also at the Province Council, the Fraternity will present awards to members in its Individual and Chapter Awards. Individual awards include the Alumni Brother Of The Year Award, Louis N. Willis Merit Of Achievement Award, Kappa Scholar Of The Year Award, and Undergraduate Brother Of The Year Award. Chapter Awards include Alumni Chapter Of The Year Award (Small, Medium, Large), Undergraduate Chapter Of The Year Award (Small, Medium, Large), and South Central Province Website Of The Year.
Rev. Dr. Tony C. Evans, Sr., Pastor of the Tenth Street Baptist Church in Camden, NJ, will serve as keynote speaker at the Closed Banquet as the Grand Chapter Representative for the Council, in addition to leading Morning Manna services for members. Evans is the current National Chaplain of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He pledged the Alpha Theta Chapter in 1974 at Tennessee State University, where he was head drum major for the Aristocrat of Bands and earned a bachelors degree in architectural engineering.
