If Any Man Will Come After Me

Dr. Monterey D. Lee, Sr.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.  – Matthew 16:25

Jesus made the statement after Peter opposed His prediction about dying at Jerusalem. Jesus was telling his disciples how the world will be for His followers, and that He Would be the first one to experience it. He would take the lead and show all humanity how to “come after me.”

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” – Luke 9:23

This same call today is being given to people how will follow Jesus as Lord. People are increasingly losing the will to follow Jesus. People are being sidetracked more and more by other interests, which is a fulfillment of prophecy.

“For a time will come when people will not listen to sound teaching. But having itching ears they will follow their own desires and will look for themselves teachers to say what they want to hear.” –  2 Timothy 4:3

The fact remains the same today as it was when Jesus first stated it; we must “will” to follow Him. No matter how much we wish and hope for the “will” of God to done in our lives. Jesus requires our “will” for His “will” to be done in you. Giving our will to Jesus comes only by denying our own will. Many people endeavor to keep as much of self as possible while still trying to make it appear that we are following Jesus. It is simply impossible to maintain our own carnal will and goals, and still “will” to follow Jesus. Give up your will, deny yourself, and take up your cross as a daily experience.
