YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee launches 21 Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge

The YWCA is launching an online initiative that identifies ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.

YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee announces the launch of the 21 Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge. The 21 Day Challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. The 21 Day Challenge registration is open and the initiative will begin on July 6.

“YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee’s mission is eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all,” said Sharon K. Roberson, president/CEO of the 122-year old organization. “Now more than ever, it is crucial that we continue our racial and social justice pledge. We are beyond disturbed that this critical mission remains elusive in our country and ask our community to stand with the YWCA against racism and discrimination of any kind and join us for the 21 Day Challenge.”

Beginning on July 6, participants will be presented with challenges, such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, reflecting on personal experience and more. Participation in the project is intended to help individuals discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact our community and to identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination. The challenges will be sent via email and posted on YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee’s website and social media channels.

The 21 Day Challenge was originally developed by noted scholars, Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. and Debby Irving. Food Solutions New England inspired this project and adapted an exercise from Dr. Moore and Irving’s book into the interactive 21 Day Racial Equity Challenge, which they launched in 2014. YWCA Greater Cleveland generously allowed the adaptation of their initiative for the local association.
