Remus elected to serve as TN Democratic Party Chair

Hendrell Remus

The Tennessee Democratic Party has made history by electing Hendrell Remus to serve as ‘party chair.’ Having previously served as a State Executive Committeeman, Chair Remus is the first Black person and first Millennial elected to serve as chair. “I am humbled and elated at the opportunity to serve as the Tennessee Democratic ‘party chair.’

This is not just a moment of accomplishment for my family and I but a historic moment for our party and indeed for our state,” said Remus. Remus is a Memphis native, and has served as a member of the TNDP Executive Committee, as well as the Tenn. National Committeeman for Young Democrats of America.

Remus ran in the 2012 election for Tennessee House of Representatives, District 84, and was defeated by incumbent Joe Towns, Jr. in the primary election. Prior to his election as chair, Hendrell worked with Tennessee State University as the ‘assistant director’ of Emergency Management. Remus replaces Mary Mancini who served as the chair for six years and is credited with expanding the party.

Other elected officers include: Vice Chair Barbara Wagner; Secretary Pam Weston; Treasurer Carol Abney; West Regional Vice Chairs Jasmine Boyd and Dave Cambron; Middle Regional Vice Chairs Katherine Heriges and Brandon Thomas; and East Regional Vice Chairs Debbie McClaskey and Ryan Scofield. All officials will serve two-year terms.
