Silence? The Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church still battles stage four lung cancer. Sometimes, you may not hear from him. He stays in contact with many people. If you cannot contact him, one may wonder if he’s okay, “Hmmm, has he returned to the hospital, is something going on with his health…” An array of thoughts may go through the mind when an ongoing illness of this sort is involved. And, he answers the next call or calls back and you’re relieved to know that he was on an outing! He’s doing fine.
Sometimes a person needs to be silent. There is a need to be still and be quiet and listen to your body. Listening to your body means meditating and concentrating on what’s best for your health. And, that’s where Pastor Fuzz can sometimes be found. He rests and listens to his body as it seems to often give different signals that lead to the need to simply sit still and be silent.
Of course, Rev. Fuzz can be seen on the electronic media being anything but silent! Stage four lung cancer has not hindered his capacity to sustain and even hold the long notes that is a signature sound of his life-long singing. He will often “go live” after or before his rest.
Yes, Pastor Fuzz has returned to his pulpit more frequently. This past Sunday, October 2nd he reminded his members that “God stays with us.” He said, “All throughout the bible, calamities and tragedies happen, but God is always there. Don’t let go of your faith because there are things that God will do for you. God will show up in your pocketbook. He’ll show up in your driveway. He’ll show up in the hospital. He’ll show up.”
Somewhat similar to God’s carrying us during times of despair, showing one set of footprints, we sometimes feel that God is silent in our prayers. Yet, when He is silent, it is then that He is working out our ails without our knowledge. Whether it is impatience or just a time that you may not be listening, He continuously listens. Therefore, we must continuously be in tune to what God is saying in your situation. Be still and listen to what you may feel as silence. As the Rev. Fuzz preached, “God is still with you.” Pastor Fuzz said, “The reason I know is because He did it for me!”
