The Tennessee Human Rights Board of Commissioner’s approved the agency annual report for fiscal year 2020-21 at the September 24 Board of Commissioners meeting. The full annual report is available at <www.tn.gov/humanrights>.

THRC Executive Director, Beverly Watts said: “During this fiscal year, the agency was faced with many challenges due to the hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency continued to receive allegations of discrimination and provided education on rights and responsibilities under the Tennessee law.”

The report details statistical information, education and outreach activities, and enforcement outcomes to safeguard individuals from discrimination through education and enforcement. The report also provides case specific information.

The Commission’s role is to enforce the state’s anti-discrimination laws which prohibit discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation based on race, creed, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age (40 and over in employment), familial status (housing only) and retaliation in employment, housing and public accommodations and coordinate compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It is the mission of the Commission to safeguard individuals from discrimination through education and enforcement.
