“I don’t know a lot about addiction therapies but I’ve been told that opioid deaths are at an epidemic level nationally,” said Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church.
As he deals with this part of his journey with stage four lung cancer, he has learned several methods of handling these addictions because of his experience with taking opioids in order to deal with high levels of pain.
In life, all things have a purpose. We may not always know why we are going through a situation, especially if it is traumatic or difficult to deal with. However, if we were to go back to those times, we might learn that there may have been a benefit for someone else somehow. And yes, Rev. Fuzz’s journey has a purpose also. Sharing this two-year journey with stage four lung cancer has highlighted people, organizations, and information at different times that were of great benefit to the community. Thus the journey is not only the journey of Rev. Fuzz but serves a purpose bigger than him.
In the past few weeks, we have talked about opioid addictions. While he hasn’t known a lot about the methods of eliminating the addiction, Rev. Fuzz has definitely seen the toll addiction has taken on families and how great the problem is within the Nashville community. As a pastor, Rev. Fuzz has been called on to officiate at a dozen funerals for 25-year-olds who died from opioid overdoses.
The problem may be handled using several methods. Fuzz wanted to look at three modules, including medical, spiritual, and natural. This column has highlighted several methods, spiritually and medically. Next week, readers will be given information on containing opioid addictions holistically.
