A magical holiday event returns Saturday, December 7, 2024. Join the Tennessee State Museum for a FREE festive event for the whole family that includes holiday cookies, crafts, and live caroling. Holiday-themed sweaters and other festive finery are encouraged. Join in for this free event on Saturday, December 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Local choirs will perform carol favorites to spread holiday cheer throughout the day. Local Choirs will perform the following schedule:
10:30 a.m. – Lacappella
11:00 a.m. – Nashville Horn Hang
11:30 a.m. – Franklin Brass Quintet
12:00 p.m. – Cremona Strings Ensemble
12:30 p.m. – Nashville Flute Choir
1:00 p.m. – Metro Nashville Chorus
2:00 p.m. – Cumberland Chorale – Nel Canto
Also of special interest at the Tennessee State Museum during December is “Lunch and Learn: The Tennessee State Capitol: Historic Images of the People’s House” is on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 12:00 Noon – 1:00pm. This event can be enjoyed FREE in-person or virtually.
Proudly perched atop the highest hill in downtown Nashville, the Tennessee State Capitol has been home to Tennesseans for over 170 years, not just as our seat of government but the site of public celebrations, memorials, civic demonstrations, school field trips and so much more. Now, Jeff Sellers and the Tennessee State Museum have published a photographic history that documents the many generations that have visited, legislated, and preserved this national historic landmark.
From renowned architect William Strickland’s Greek Revival design to the enslaved workers, stone masons, and convicts that helped build it, the book recounts the early years, through the tumultuous Civil War, and the endless efforts of each generation to modernize it while preserving it for future Tennesseans. This scenic tour has rare and sometimes never seen photos of the historic Tennessee State Capitol.

Jeff Sellers is the director of education and public programs at the Tennessee State Museum and State Capitol. He has served as a museum educator and managed tours of the Capitol for over 19 years. Sellers has written extensively on Tennessee history as well as assisted on countless exhibits, public programs, and school programs throughout his tenure. He has led tours of the Capitol to groups from all over the state, nation, and world. His latest book “The Tennessee State Capitol” is published by Arcadia Publishing Company and is available now at your favorite book retailer.
