Celebrate MLK Weekend at Schermerhorn Symphony Center

The Nashville Symphony hosts a celebration honoring MLK and concerts featuring Mickey Guyton and The War and Treaty, blending genres to inspire hope and unity.

MLK: A Celebration in Song with Mickey Guyton and the Nashville Symphony will be presented on Sunday, January 19 at 7:30 p.m. Schermerhorn Symphony Center, featuring the Nashville Symphony,  Jonathan Taylor Rush, conductor; Mickey Guyton; Celebration Chorus – Odessa Settles, chorus master; Celebration Youth Chorus - Margaret Campbelle-Holman, co-director & Dr. Nita Smith, co-director; and the W. Crimm Singers.

Join the Nashville Symphony for an unforgettable evening honoring the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at their 31st annual MLK Celebration. This inspiring event will feature the powerful voices of the Celebration Chorus and Celebration Youth Chorus, along with four-time, GRAMMY®-nominated artist and country music trailblazer Mickey Guyton. Experience a moving blend of classical, contemporary, and spiritual music that celebrates Dr. King’s enduring message of hope, equality, and justice. 

Enjoy a poignant performance of Mickey Guyton’s personal and powerful song, “Black Like Me,” which echoes Dr. King’s dream for freedom and progress. The War and Treaty perform with the Nashville Symphony on Thursday, January 16; Friday, January 17; and Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. each evening.Husband-and-wife powerhouse vocal duo Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter have taken the music world by storm with their astounding mix of Americana, country, soul, blues, folk, rock, and gospel. Now, hot on the heels of their Grammy® and CMA Award nominations and their newest album, “Lover’s Game.” The War And Treaty performs their first-ever concerts with a symphony orchestra in Music City, alongside the Nashville Symphony conducted by Enrico Lopez-Yañez.

Founded in 2014 by the husband-and-wife duo Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, The War And Treaty has emerged as one of the most electrifying new acts in American music. Recently earning their first ever GRAMMY nominations for Best New Artist and Best American Roots Song for “Blank Page,” they also received this year their first ever Duo of the Year nomination from the Country Music Association, Vocal Duo nomination from the Academy of Country Music, plus recognition by the Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ole Opry, and Americana Music Association including earning AMA Duo/Group of the Year for the second straight year.

With a lionhearted sonic blend, both roaring with passion and tender to the touch, they are unlike any other act in music.
