Meharry Medical College will host its 151st Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Grand Ole Opry, located at 600 Opry Mills Drive beginning at 8:00 am. This year’s graduation exercise will honor a class whose achievements have been extraordinary and mark a defining moment in the institution’s history. It is the centerpiece of the College’s long weekend of Homecoming Reunion events for Alumni including class reunions and milestone celebrations, networking events, and special programs honoring Meharry alumni.
As the college commemorates 150 years since its founding in 1876, the Class of 2026 emerges as the Sesquicentennial Class — a group uniquely positioned between a legacy of perseverance and a future of continued impact. The reason it is the 151 st Commencement is because they have held multiple ceremonies in a few previous years. During commencement students are officially recognized physicians, dentists, researchers and health care professionals who are ready and prepared to advance health care in the nation’s communities and across the world.
Remarks will be delivered by Meharry Medical College President and CEO Dr. James E.K. Hildreth, who will address graduates, families, and friends during a ceremony that reflects upon the institution’s history, traditions and why each graduate is a contributor to Meharry’s legacy.
“Every year I remind the graduates that they are going out into a world that desperately needs them, and that has never been more true than for the class of 2026,” says Dr. Hildreth. “Our students are gifts to the world whether they are in healthcare, public health, research, or data science. We are confident that Meharr’s 150-year legacy of preparing committed, competent, and compassionate leaders has prepared them well for their chosen careers. We are extremely proud of the 2026 cohort of newly minted ‘Meharrians.’
“Members of the Class of 2026 completed their training during a period of heightened national focus on health care, public health challenges and the need for trusted providers in underserved communities. As they cross the stage, each graduate carries forward a mission that extends far beyond the ceremony — a commitment to transform health outcomes, expand opportunity and serve those who have too often been overlooked keeping us Forever on the Path!”
