Cathedral of Praise celebrated academic achievement and invested in the future of its young people June 28, awarding scholarships to six students and recognizing eight high school and college graduates during its annual Scholarship and Graduate Recognition Service.
The North Nashville church led by Rev. Jerry L. Maynard II, senior pastor, presented more than $28,000 in scholarship awards raised over the past year. Since the scholarship program was established in 1995, Cathedral of Praise has awarded more than $500,000 to deserving students, including $250,000 personally contributed by Bishop Jerry L. Maynard, Sr. and Dr. Mary T. Maynard.
Family members, church leaders and supporters gathered for the special service to celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s graduates—encouraging them as they prepare for the next chapter of their educational and professional journeys.
During the service, six scholarship recipients received awards ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 to help continue their studies at colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning.
When the scholarship program began more than 30 years ago, the maximum scholarship award was $700. This year’s scholarships included awards of $5,000, $3,000, $2,500 and $2,000, reflecting the church’s growing commitment to helping students pursue higher education.
The ceremony also marked the 33rd consecutive year Cathedral of Praise has recognized its graduating students. Honorees included four high school graduates, two college undergraduates and two recipients of postgraduate degrees—each recognized for academic excellence, perseverance and dedication.
“We know today that education plays a vital role for individuals as they move forward,” said Teresa Campbell, who oversees the student recognition program. “We are proud of these students and honored to invest in their future through scholarships and recognition.”
Church leaders said the annual celebration is about more than scholarships. It also honors the families, mentors and supporters who have encouraged students throughout their educational journeys while reinforcing Cathedral of Praise’s longstanding commitment to the spiritual, educational and personal development of young people.
The annual scholarship and graduate recognition service remains one of Cathedral of Praise’s signature traditions, celebrating both academic achievement and the importance of investing in the next generation.
