One of the most wonderful benefits about being in a relationship with God is knowing that God will and does take care of each of us.
Scripture reveals that God supplies all of our needs. God is our father and mother. God parents and guides us through difficult situations and protects us from dangers seen and unseen.
We are good. Our needs are met. We know that we can depend upon God.
After God completed creation, God stood back and upon examination, made this observation—everything was good: “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good,” Genesis 1:31.
We are included in that goodness. We are good. Sometimes we think we are bad. The truth is we do a lot of bad stuff. We sin in all sorts of ways. We think things we should not think, and we treat people like they are bad when really we are the ones not on our best behavior. Often we find ourselves reflecting on how bad we are, and we start to feel guilty, as if there is nothing good about us.
The truth is we are still good. Our actions do not make us good; it is the grace of God and the fact God created each of us making us good. We are good in that sense. We are also good because God takes care of us. Often Satan tempts us into believing that we ‘lack,’ that we are not good—that we need something. When Satan tempts us with something that we think we need, we need to reply to him with these words: “I’m good.”
We feel like we are not good, because we are uncomfortable with waiting on God, or our flesh makes us feel really desperate. But the truth is in the waiting. We are good, and if we rely on our spirit person, we will realize that we are good. We will not yield to temptation. We cannot be good on our own; we need God’s grace. None of us are perfect, but we are good. We may not have everything we want, but we are good. We may come home to empty houses, but we are good.
The declaration God makes over his creation is one that we have to affirm in our spirits—I am good! Not only are we good, but also whatever we are going through is good, and it will work out for our good. Things may look really bad now. They may seem hopeless. We may have been waiting a long time for relief, even years. We who have the faith know that it’s good. In the end, everything will be all right. Those of us who have put our trust in the Lord rest in the assurance of God’s goodness and protection. Even when situations turn from bad to worse, let us proclaim with faith: I’m good! Everything God made is good!
