Expressions of faith Saving a soul from death (James 5:20)

Rev. William Watson

Most people want simple and direct answers to life’s biggest questions, e.g.: 1) How can people be saved and go to heaven? 2) How can one find meaning in life? 3) How can people get out of the mess that they made out of their lives?

The lost are looking for a clear and meaningful answer. That’s why we should be straightforward. Many today tend to look for God in and through dramatic experiences. But Paul declared the gospel is not complicated at all. It is simple to share and simple to receive, and Jesus Christ is as near as our hearts and mouths.

We should be encouraged to keep learning as much as we can about how people actually come to faith in Christ (John 3:3). It’s amazing how many ways God uses to bring people to Himself. We learn to proclaim the good news and learn to never miss an opportunity to share the good news with family, friends and neighbors. Through their patience, love and prayers, they can introduce others to Christ and the salvation He offers.

By proclaiming the gospel, one must bear the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit produces one kind of fruit—‘Christ likeness.’ The fruits of the Spirit are love (1 Corinthians 13); joy (John 4:34); peace (Luke 8:22); long suffering (Luke 23:34); kindness (Mark 10:14); goodness (Luke 10:30-35); faithfulness; gentleness (Luke 13:1-17); and self-control (holding one’s self in, especially in the flesh).

My weekly prayer is that the reader of this commentary becomes spiritually inspired of God. Contact Expressions of Faith at: P.O. Box 330127, Nashville, Tenn. 37203 or e-mail <w310watson@aol.com>.
