On June 24th The Ladies Aid Society of Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church will gather to celebrate its 61st anniversary.   The service will be held at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Green, 1410 Jefferson Street. The theme for the occasion is “Celebrating the Legacy.” This celebration will honor six members of the Ladies Aid Society who has given over 50 years of service to the church and to the community.

The Ladies Aid Society is an organization that fulfills a diverse range of duties and responsibilities. Members siad, “As the name suggests, they have been ready to assist whenever and however needed.”  The society has assisted victims of natural disasters in Haiti., Florida, and Louisiana, and the Nashville flood of 2010. The organization has also conducted Adult Literacy programs, and donated electronics and appliances to persons in need of assistance.

The honorees are: Dr. Eunice Campbell Grisby, Mrs. Mary Hamby, Mrs. Rebecca Jennings, Dr. Henrietta McCallister, Mrs. Hattie McKay, and Mrs. Sarah Wilhoite. “All six honorees have served in various leadership positions in the church, and all six are retired Metro schools teachers and administrators,” stated program organizers.

The celebration will consist of special music provided by Mrs. Audrey Bowie, recording artist, former Minister of Music at Spruce Street Baptist Church, and former choral music instructor at Stratford High School.

The speaker for this anniversary service will be Reverend Dr. Coreen Jackson, Professor of Communication, and now the new Director of the Honors Center at Tennessee State University. She is the mother of three teenage sons, and is married to Rev. Dr. E. Christopher Jackson, the newly installed pastor of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.
