Beginning this week, a pavement evaluation vehicle will begin winding its way through the streets of Nashville and Davidson County.

This high-tech vehicle will survey streets and capture high quality digital images of pavement surfaces. The technology aboard the vehicle will record the degrees of roughness and distress along street surfaces. Weather permitting, it is anticipated that data collection will be complete by mid-August.

Each year, approximately half of Davidson County’s streets are surveyed. The evaluation is a vital component to a continued quality pavement management system. City engineers will use the data collected to manage street maintenance in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
