Remembrance service for victims of Sandy Hook and gun violence, Dec. 10

Marie Delus, New York Moms Demand Action volunteer and survivor

On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and fatally shot 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members. Prior to driving to the school, he shot and killed his mother at their Newtown home. As first responders arrived at the scene, Lanza committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

In commemoration of the tragedy, volunteers with the Middle Tennessee chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, will gather to commemorate the tragedy and remember the Davidson County citizens who died in shootings in 2022.

“We’re going to remember the Sandy Hook children and educators (dead now for 10 years) and all those in Davidson County who died in gun suicides, homicides, and unintentional shootings in 2022,” said event organizers. “We will engage in several activities to keep their names alive.”

Refreshments will be served following the gathering. For those who cannot attend but want their loved one’s name remembered, email the name to <nashvillemomsgroup@gmail.com>.
