The Metropolitan Council and Davidson County Election Commission are joining forces to promote National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 15, as Davidson County prepares for the Nov. 3 state and federal general election.
As part of the effort, Metro Council members recently toured the Election Commission’s new office, where they received a behind-the-scenes look at the election process and demonstrations of voting equipment.
“We wanted Council members to get a behind-the-scenes look at elections in our county,” said John D. Richardson, Davidson County administrator of elections. “The greater their understanding of the details of our work, the easier it will be for them to answer questions from their constituents and encourage participation in the electoral process.”
Richardson also encouraged eligible residents to register and begin making plans for the upcoming election.
“With the November 3 election fast approaching, we encourage all eligible residents to register to vote and make a plan to cast their ballot,” he said.
The Election Commission reported 476,807 registered voters in Davidson County as of Sept. 1. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 5. Early voting begins Oct. 14 and continues through Oct. 29. The dates are confirmed on the Election Commission’s current 2026 election calendar.
National Voter Registration Day coincides this year with a regular Metro Council meeting. Election Commission staff and commissioners are scheduled to be on the second floor of the historic Courthouse and City Hall from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, Tuesday, to register voters, process address changes, answer questions and provide voting information.

“National Voter Registration Day is a reminder to check your registration, update it if needed, and make a plan to vote early,” Vice Mayor Angie E. Henderson said.
Henderson said council members will also encourage residents to register and obtain voting information through <GoVoteTN.gov>.
The Davidson County Election Commission also provides online voter registration information and allows voters to update their addresses. Tennessee residents using online registration must have a Tennessee driver license or identification card issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
Davidson County will offer early voting at multiple locations across the county for the Nov. 3 election. On Election Day, voters must cast ballots at their assigned polling locations.
National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic initiative launched in 2012 to encourage eligible Americans to register to vote and keep their registration information current.
