Waller, one of the oldest and largest law firms in Tennessee, recently hosted a special ‘Lunch and Learn’ event to address what is being done to combat racism and prejudice throughout the state and region. The luncheon featured Shelley Rose, who delivered a State of the Region address on how the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is working to eliminate hatred and bigotry and ensure justice and fair treatment for all.

Committed to promoting diversity initiatives at the firm and within the community, Waller’s luncheon brought together business and community leaders to hear guest speaker Rose, the ADL’s interim regional director. The ADL turned 100 last year and adopted the theme, ‘Imagine A World Without Hate.’ The official You Tube video, at only 80 seconds in length, has over a million views. The Southeast regional office offers programs and services that advance the ADL mission in four states: Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. They are located in Atlanta, home to the largest Jewish community in the Southeast. The Anti-Defamation League fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry in the U.S. and abroad through information, education, legislation, and advocacy. ADL serves as a resource for government, media, law enforcement, educators and the public.

“The immediate object of the League is to stop, by appeals to reason and conscience and, if necessary, by appeals to law, the defamation of the Jewish people. Its ultimate purpose is to secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end forever to unjust and unfair discrimination against and ridicule of any sect or body of citizens” — ADL Charter October 1913.
