The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s (MNAA) Arts at the Airport program recently hosted the fifth of six performances in its Multicultural Music Series with a concert by the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Steel Drum Band. The Multicultural Music Series is funded under the Arts Build Communities Grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

The MTSU Steel Drum Bands add a unique flavor to the arsenal of percussion sounds and often performs professional and student arrangements of modern popular music. The 8-10 member band performs a formal concert each semester and regularly plays both on and off campus. The band has also had the privilege of performing twice with the Nashville Symphony.

“Nashville, Tenn. is known as Music City around the world, and Nashville International Airport reflects the spirit of the city and region we serve,” Rob Wigington, president/CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, said.

“For more than 25 years, our Arts at the Airport program has spotlighted the works of some of our region’s most talented artists, showcasing live music on four stages in the terminal and art exhibits throughout the airport.

“As a vital economic engine for Nashville and our state, we are committed to delivering the ‘Nashville airports experience’—great airports for passengers, partners and employees.”

Created in 1988, Arts at the Airport is an ever-growing, ever-changing showcase of cultural diversity and creative talent in Tennessee featuring both visual arts and live music performances.
