‘Ceramics By Sedora’ will be one of the feature attractions on Saturday, October 18, at the grand opening of Tea Cups & Jewels A Collector’s Shop (TCJ), located at 3803 N. Hydes Ferry Rd., Suite D in Nashville.
Sedora Johnson has been creating beautiful ceramic pieces for over 16 years.
Sedora is a licensed practical nurse (LPN) who found the art of ceramics to be therapeutic and relaxing.
She began by taking ceramic classes on 18th Avenue North under the instruction of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ladd. She later began classes at the East Park Community Center under the instruction of William Dotson, where she continues to study the craft.
Sedora creates prize-winning ceramic pieces. Some of her favorites are busts of Martin Luther King, Jr.; President Barack Obama; and angels. She also enjoys creating a variety of Christmas trees and other items for people to enjoy.
Her pieces have been shown and sold once a year in her home or at a friend’s salon.
Approximately four years ago, Sedora was encouraged to submit her ceramic crafts in the Tennessee State Fair.
“For the past four years I have submitted my work and placed first or second each year,” said Sadora.”
Reginia Boyd encouraged her during this period: “She wins every year,” said Boyd. Boyd is a seamstress and a baker who submits award-winning clothing and beautiful lingerie.
Sadora has received prizes for a nativity scene, a TSU football, Christmas trees, and a ‘set of ladies.’
When she is not working on her ceramics, she is busy with several organizations, such as being a board member at 18th Avenue Enrichment Center, North Nashville Organization for Community Improvement (NNOCI) and for the Osage Neighborhood Watch.
Sedora currently maintains her nursing craft by working one day each week at Schrader Lane Assisted Living and continues to create her ceramic works of art at the East Park Community Center where she now encourages others in her class to submit their works in the fair also.
Sedora is a mother to four kids, seven grand children and three great-grand children.
