College Basketball Roundup
OVC Tournament and TSU Senior Days

The 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Tournament will be played at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, beginning Wednesday, March 4 and concluding Saturday, March 7.

“We are delighted to continue our relationship with both Municipal Auditorium and the city of Nashville,” said OVC Commissioner Beth DeBauche. “As a result of improvements to the facility and the continued support of both the venue and the city, we can continue to make Municipal Auditorium and Nashville the home of our premier championship.”

The Municipal Auditorium has undergone extensive renovations including a new basketball court, new seating, a new scoreboard as well as locker rooms improvements with other improvements in the works.

“We are honored that the OVC has chosen the NMA to host the championships through 2017,” said Bob Skoney, general manager of Nashville Municipal Auditorium. “We look forward to providing an exceptional tournament experience for the student-athletes, fans, coaches, and officials attending the games.”

Since 2011 the top eight men’s and women’s teams have played in a format where the No. 1 and 2 seeds receive two byes to the semifinals while the No. 3 and 4 seeds receive one bye into the quarterfinals. First rounds match No. 5 seeds against No. 8 seeds and No. 6 seeds against No. 7 seeds. That format remains for the men’s team, while the women’s teams have switched to a traditional format (#1 vs.# 8, #2 vs. #7, etc.) this season. There are 12 sets of teams in the league. Only eight compete.

TSU Seniors honored

Jay Harris is the lone senior on the TSU men’s roster this season. The 5’10” guard from Philadelphia, PA completes his TSU career Saturday, Feb. 28, at cross-town rival Belmont, after finishing his home court heroics for the Tigers Thursday, Feb. 26, at Gentry Center against UT Martin.

Kudos to Rachel Allen from Clarksville, Tenn.; LaTeasha Hill from Indianapolis, Ind.; Chelsea Hudson from Midland, Texas; and Nashville’s own Briana Morrow from Glencliff High School. These four phenomenal women finish their TSU basketball careers during March. These seniors have led the Lady Tigers to a third-place standing in the conference rankings at press time, and will likely make noise in the OVC tournament, and then, who knows after that? Should they win the OVC title, it’s on to the NCAA as two previous Lady Tigers squads have done in the past. Their final home game was Wednesday, Feb 25. and their regular season finale is also at Belmont on Feb. 28.

TSU Aristocrat of Bands assistant director James ‘Dean’ Sexton assured me the Lady Tigers will have the support of the Pep Band at the tournament before TSU shuts down for Spring Break on March 9. Will they have yours?
