Comcast donated $45,000 and unveiled a new technology lab for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee on Feb. 21 alongside community partners and elected officials. The lab will serve more than 150 Club children at the newest Boys & Girls Club at Cleveland Park Community Center in East Nashville.
Comcast’s $45,000 grant supports the launch of My.Future, a technology initiative that will teach Club members about the digital world and ignite their passion for technology. Through the My.Future partnership, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Comcast NBCUniversal are harnessing the power of technology and the Internet to expand digital literacy and help conquer the digital divide.
“Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee is truly grateful for Comcast’s support and partnership,” said Dan Jernigan, President/ CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee. “Through technology, we are enabling youth to unlock their full potential and seek new, exciting opportunities for their futures.”
By exposing youth to new technology skills, they will be more likely to pursue a career in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field, which is expected to grow nearly twice as fast as other fields in the United States by 2018.
“Through this partnership, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Comcast NBCUniversal are providing Club members with the technology skills needed for success in the 21st century,” said Doug Guthrie, Regional SVP at Comcast.
At the national level, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Comcast NBCUniversal have a five-year, multi-million dollar alliance.
