The hearts of people around the world skipped a beat on the 4th of April, 1968. The man who had championed the cause of America’s moral compass had been assassinated. The announcement of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sparked tears and tear gas as riots around the country demonstrated sorrow, anger and outrage that the man who had promoted non-violent resistance was slain while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee.

The program is being coordinated by the African American Cultural Alliance, Kwame Lillard, president (615-364-1993); and First Baptist Church, Capitol Hill (615-255-8757), Rev. Kelly M. Smith, Jr., pastor.

Community organizations and businesses are encouraged to pause also on this day for a moment of reflection, and post this logo on your doors, and windows of home or establishment.
