Ledisi still has the juice

Ledisi

Ledisi Anibade Young has always been adored. The jazz-influenced vocalist is still the same pretty woman with unlimited styles. The bolder and better 12-time Grammy nominee shared her astronomical voice and versatility with her most loyal fans June 13 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Yes, Ledisi has made yet another stop into Music City. This go around she brought two of her friends along for the ride on her ‘Let Love Rule Tour’: Tweet and Melanie Fiona.

Ledisi shared some of the songs that have earned her an ever-growing legion of fans throughout her career. She also had everyone’s attention as she shared her life’s truths, crediting her mother for her current success. ‘Pieces of Me’, ‘Stay Together’ and ‘Goin’ Thru Changes,’ were just a few of her many hits, which she performed throughout the evening. Connecting with her audience comes naturally to her.

With nearly 20 years in the industry, eight albums, acting roles, and recognition from the highest authority in the free world (the Obamas), Ledisi has most definitely arrived. Considered one of former First Lady Michelle Obama’s favorite singers, the Verve recording label artist has performed at The White House numerous times and was handpicked to perform at the former First Lady’s 50th birthday party.

Proving to be a versatile artist who defies categorization, Ledisi has recorded notable covers of Luther Vandross’ ‘My Sensitivity,’ Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Blues In The Night,’ Earth, Wind & Fire’s ‘Devotion,’ and Natalie Cole’s ‘I’ve Got Love on my Mind.’

Her recorded collaborations include songs with Prince, John Legend, Eric Benet, Kem, and neo-soul pioneer Rahsaan Patterson. She attributes her list of collaborations to her long-time producing partner Rex Rideout, who was instrumental to her being signed to her first major label deal.

It’s clear, Miss Young is in love with life as well as herself. She mentioned the trials and time it took for her to get to that place. Certainly, worth the price of admission, it’s been a long road for the New Orleans born and bred recording artist, songwriter, and actress.

“I am living in the moment and having fun,” Ledisi was recently quoted as saying.
