The summer installment of the Flying Solo series at Nashville International Airport (BNA) opens June 3 and runs through Aug. 25. The exhibit is part of Nashville International Airport’s (BNA) Arts at the Airport program.
Each season, the Flying Solo series offers arts organizations and gifted local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work at BNA. Summer 2019 Flying Solo series artists include Buffy Holton, Michael Kenney and Green Daniel. In addition, ‘Pieced Together: Mosaic Stories from Middle Tennessee’ remains on display.

Buffy Holton

Buffy Holton is a retired educator who taught photography and film-making, as well as developmental reading and writing skills, to hundreds of Middle Tennessee high school students and adults. Patterns and textures have been her most frequent subjects in various mediums. As an avid gardener, she started working with gourds as a base for design after creating several gourd bird houses. She currently resides in the woods in rural Lewis County, Tenn. Visit <www.thebuffcat.com>.
Michael Kenney

Michael Kenney was raised in Tucson, Ariz., but he has lived in Nashville for 40 years. Kenney is an alumnus of Middle Tennessee State University. He also served in the U.S. Army. While providing leather goods for Ralph Lauren, he decided to create an original cowboy chair, because he could not find one that existed. He has been commissioned to build chairs for musicians Willie Nelson and Michael Martin Murphy. Visit <www.facebook.com/AmericanaOriginalArt/>.
Green Daniel

In Green Daniel’s high school yearbook, he was voted most talented in two separate categories: art and music. Since then, his professional focus has been in those directions. A self-taught artist, Daniel has always found time for making art, even through his 30 years in the Nashville music industry. As a manager, producer, publisher and songwriter, Daniel counts involvement with several hit records among his accomplishments. Retiring from the mainstream music industry has allowed Daniel to concentrate full-time on his earliest muse: art. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Southeast and is in private collections from the Northeast to Southern California. ‘Pieced Together: Mosaic Stories from Middle Tennessee’

The seven artists participating in this exhibit were curated by Sherri Warner Hunter. Each of the exhibiting artists have found that the mosaic processes, materials and techniques provided exciting options for creating artworks that couldn’t be accomplished in any other medium.
