AMAN and MACA hold annual conference, banquet in celebration of Black History

Dr. Amam Nasir Ahmad speaks on the evolution of the Muslim community.

Family and friends of the African Muslim Association of Nashville (AMAN) and the Muslim American Cultural Association, (MACA) gathered in celebration of the fourth annual Africana Muslim Culture & History Month 2020/1441 at the Muslim American Cultural Center. This year’s celebration was expanded to include a banquet that was held on Friday, February 7, with the standard daylong conference following on Saturday.

Following a welcome by President Idrissa Coulibaly; greetings from Council Zulfat Suara and state Rep. Harold Moses Love, Jr.; and 15 minutes of prayer by Isha Salat, guests were provided with a delicious buffet meal.

There were other presentations, e.g., the Muslim College Student Essay Winner, Aminu Abdusalem, from Fisk University. He expressed a great appreciation for his selection.

The keynote speaker for the banquet was Imam Nasir Ahmad, DDS, who spoke on ‘Evolution of the Muslim Community of Imam Warith Deen Mohammad.’ He said it is important to “create environments where we give our people knowledge. Giving knowledge that will help is real love.”

“Our conference is a clear sign of the strong Islamic, cultural and historical bonds between the African Muslim Association of Nashville and the Muslim American Cultural Association,” said Dr. Amiri Yasin Al-Hadid, co-conference organizer.

The Muslim American Cultural Center is located at 1513 Jefferson Street.
