“We are given authority and power [to have the right mind] over the enemy,” Luke 10:19.
As the body of Christ, we must rise up like Michael, the archangel, who fought the strong spirits and rebuked Satan, and also removed [kicked out] Satan, the fallen, out of heaven. When you have a consciousness of the authority and power that you have from God, it will wake up your mind to fulfilling God’s will and purpose for life. After this exhortation by Paul, he gave them a supreme example to consider. He said we should have the same mindset or thinking that Christ has. Paul talks about how Jesus is God in the earth. As such, He was willing to give up His glory and humble Himself to become a man and die on a cross. Jesus gave himself up as an expression of love and was willing to lower Himself to express that love.
Jesus Christ is the supreme example of love and humility. He makes it clear that no one has greater love than to give his life for another (John 15:13).
Paul is challenging the church to be willing to lower themselves for the benefit of others. That is how you can be of the same mindset: have the same love and intent on one purpose by looking after the good of the other person. Humility is an aspect of the Christian life, and we have the perfect model of how to be humble in Jesus Christ.
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble,” James 4:6.
God sees when people respond to Him and to each other with humility, and He is gracious to us. Peter said that we should humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God—at the right time, he will exalt you (1 Peter 5:6).
We can cast all of our cares on Him, because he cares for us. This exemplifies God’s grace for the humble. Let’s treat each other with humility and honor to show we are valuing each other as God values us. Let God perform His work in you. Christ is in the form of the existing God, so it not ‘robbery’ for Him to be equal [existing] with God.
But He made himself with no reputation; He emptied out himself by assuming the form of a servant. He took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men [humanity]. He came as a man, like one like us. Christ was humble. He humbled himself by being obedient unto death or to the point of death, even to death on a cross where He died. Jesus Christ was willing to give up for the sake of all mankind. Every man/woman should attend to the needs of others. This is seeing after someone else, being there for others, caring for people.
“As we have therefore the opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith,” Galatians 6:10.
