One of the nation’s oldest African American publishing houses is celebrating a milestone year, as R.H. Boyd commemorates 130 years of service rooted in faith, education and community impact.
Founded in 1896, the Nashville-based company has played a significant role in providing religious, educational and cultural resources to churches, educators and families for more than a century. In 2026, the organization is honoring that legacy with a year long series of events and initiatives designed to both reflect on its history and invest in future generations.
Throughout the anniversary year, R.H. Boyd plans to host gatherings in cities including Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, Martha’s Vineyard and Nashville. These events will bring together educators, church leaders, business professionals and cultural influencers, while also highlighting authors, thought leaders and innovations in publishing and curriculum development.
“As we celebrate 130 years of R.H. Boyd’s legacy, we honor the vision and perseverance that have guided our mission,” said Dr. LaDonna Boyd, the company’s fifth-generation president/CEO. “We are inspired to continue empowering voices, sharing knowledge, and nurturing hope for the next 130 years.”
A centerpiece of the celebration will be the fifth annual Legacy Ball, scheduled for Saturday, June 27, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. The event is expected to draw community leaders, supporters and partners for an evening focused on reflection, fellowship and philanthropy.
Proceeds from the Legacy Ball will benefit the R.H. Boyd Family Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships for students pursuing higher education as well as grants to nonprofit organizations across the country. Applications for both scholarships and grants are currently available, with a deadline of April 15.
This year’s Legacy Ball will be chaired by Don and Tracy Hardin and Gail Carr Williams, with young professionals leadership provided by Tylan M. Beard and Lea A. Bryant. Organizers say the leadership team reflects a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities and strengthening communities.
In addition to attending events, individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in the anniversary celebration through partnerships, sponsorships and table purchases.
Company leaders say the 130th anniversary is not only a time to celebrate past accomplishments, but also an opportunity to reaffirm R.H. Boyd’s mission of advancing education, faith formation and cultural preservation for generations to come.
