Clark Memorial United Methodist Women celebrated their annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 21st.  Two services were held, 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

The United Methodist Women experienced a high-spirited day!  The 8:00 a.m. celebration was given a message from Clark Memorial’s own, Dr. Princilla E. Morris.  The 10:45 a.m. celebration was given the message from Judge Shiela Calloway.  Both gave inspiring messages that kept with the chosen theme, “Living in Covenant Community.”  As the theme was taken from the scripture, 1 Corinthian 12:12-14, 26-27. Both speakers encouraged the members to know their gift, stating, “Everyone has a gift…each and every one was born with a specific gift.”  When you know your gift, use it!  And, both seemed to reiterate that when using your gifts and working in the church, “stay in your lane.”

The Women’s Voices of Clark rendered the music for both services.  Under the leadership of Sandra Burnett, the spirit filled the services in a great expression of Unity as the choir was comprised of voices from three separate choirs.

Every year it is customary to choose a woman of the church who has worked with the United Methodist Church and utilized her gifts in service to the church.

Wanda Clay, long-time freelance writer for the Nashville PRIDE News-paper, was the recipient of the 2017 UMW Women’s Day recognition of the Woman of the Year.  Clay distributes her time and uses her gifts through work and church.  She is  a Writer and Media Liaison with her company, Connect It Media Marketing Resource, while working with her brother and father at Curtis Print All as the Office Executive.

Clay is a dedicated member of Clark Memorial, serving in several capacities.  She is a member and serves as President of the Imani Choir, a member of the United Methodist Women, a member of Community Ministries, a Certified Lay Servant, weekly participant of the Mid-day mid week Wednesday services, Children’s messenger,  Vice Chair chair of Mission & Service, Editor of The Connection monthly newsletter, and Chair of Public Relations.  Clay said, “It is indeed an honor to receive recognition for the works that I do.  However, I think that using God’s gifts is the way that we actually bless God.  Therefore, to God be the glory, for receiving Woman of the Year.”

Clark Memorial is located at 1014 14th Ave. N. The senior pastor is Rev. Dr. Herbert Lester, Jr.
