Hundreds of Southeastern Region members and guests of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will convene in Nashville on March 21-24 during their 73rd Regional Conference, ‘Golden Renaissance.’
Sorority members will gather at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs (700 Cool Springs Blvd., Franklin, Tenn.) for a weekend of education, entertainment and enlightenment.
The region’s full schedule of activities include several workshops and training sessions for members and affiliates as well as a community reception on Friday, March 22 at 7 pm that is free and opened to the public. Members will make donations to various charities, most notably St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The sorority will also welcome U.S. Olympic Team members Cullen James and Tyler McGill.
Other activities will include a comedy show starring comedian Steve Brown on Saturday, March 23 at 9 pm and a prayer breakfast featuring Stellar Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated recording artist Byron Cage on Sunday, March 24 at 9 am. Tickets to the comedy show and prayer breakfast are available for purchase via the conference website at www.seregionsgrho.org. Everyone is invited to participate in the open events during the convention.
“We are so excited about welcoming our members, affiliates and guests to Music City,” said Rasheeda Liberty, Southeastern Region director. “We believe in service and scholarship, so each event will showcase our commitment to both endeavors. Our conferences are a time for us to take care of business, recognize our achievements during the past year, showcase our service activities and highlight our relationships with organizations such as U.S.A. Swimming and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We plan to let our hair down a little with some amazing entertainment. This is going to be a great conference.”
The sorority will make a donation and present hundreds of dolls and action figures via their ‘Dolled Up’ initiative to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Thousands of dollars will also be donated to various charities, including the March of Dimes, the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority National Education Fund, and the Girl Scouts of America.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded by seven educators on November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The sorority’s aim is to enhance the quality of life in the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization’s programs and activities. The 80,000 member international collegiate sorority is comprised of 600 plus chapters in the United States, the Caribbean, and Germany. The Southeastern Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was formed in 1939. It includes: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands.

Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. hosts conference
The ladies of Upsilon Sigma Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will host the 73rd Southeast Region Conference, under the leadership of Davina Powell. Ms. Powell said that she is looking forward to an outstanding conference.
“Our local organization will be doing everything to encourage a wonderful time for everyone. Not only will our group be busy, but our affiliates, the Philos and Rrhoers, will also be assisting with the conference,” Powell said.
According to Powell, the conference experience will include more than 15 hours of workshops and training opportunities.
“A leadership breakfast is planned for all chapter presidents, area coordinators, regional and national board members,” she said.
A fraternity Step Show is on the agenda for Friday night.
“We look forward to working with the regional officers and new director,” said Rasheeda Liberty, the newly elected director. “Karya Beamon-Evans is the newly elected financial secretary. The sorority also has a newly elected International Grand President, Bonita M. Herring.”
