Annual ranking puts two Nashville schools at the top for Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Once again, the two best schools in Tennessee are in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

In its annual ranking of America’s best high schools, “U.S. News and World Report” has named Hume-Fogg Magnet High School as number one in the state with Martin Luther King, Jr. Magnet High School close behind at number two. The ranking is based on student-teacher ratio, college readiness, and proficiency in Algebra and English.

“We’re thrilled to have both of the magazine’s top high schools for Tennessee in Metro Nashville Public Schools,” said Chief Academic Officer Jay Steele. “I want to congratulate the students, staff and families of Hume-Fogg and Martin Luther King Jr. magnet schools for this well-deserved honor.”

Both schools also made the national list of best high schools, with Hume-Fogg hitting number 37 and MLK number 113. With more than 21,000 high schools considered for the list, it is a big honor to be included, not to mention making the top 50 or even 150.

Adding to the honor, Hume-Fogg is listed as the 15th best magnet school in the country, with MLK coming in 37th on the same list. Both schools also received gold medals from the magazine.

Hume-Fogg and MLK are often included in lists of America’s best high schools, including several appearances each on the annual “U.S. News and World Report” and “Newsweek” lists.

The honors will continue for MLK this year when First Lady Michelle Obama speaks at the school’s graduation on May 18.
