It’s wonderful that Artober Nashville 2015 got underway during my first week as mayor. The arts contribute so much to our city, and they consistently make Nashville a richer and more beautiful place. If you haven’t checked out the Artober schedule yet, please do, because there’s something for everyone. Arts. Everywhere. Artober Nashville, is a month-long celebration of arts and culture held each year in October, that informs and inspires the city’s awareness of and participation in art of all genres. Artober Nashville seeks to engage every Nashvillian in arts-rooted experiences and creative living. To highlight the depth and breadth of arts activities available citywide, the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission and NowPlayingNashville partner with hundreds of arts and cultural organizations on official Artober Nashville events.
Artober Nashville is one of the South’s single-largest cultural celebrations –featuring events in visual and performing arts, music, craft, film and more– and engaging an estimated 400,000 Nashvillians where they live, work & play, including Nashville’s great neighborhoods. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Artober Nashville is held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, as designated by Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Our Town is a public-art project led by visual artist Bryce McCloud. Our Town seeks to engage Nashvillians in a conversation about community, and to participate in art-making. You can find McCloud and his team at the Main Branch of the Nashville Public Library on Friday, Oct. 16 from 1 to 5 PM, where he’ll be creating large-scale portraits in the style of a postage-stamp.
Metro Arts’ THRIVE program will sponsor The North Wall Fest, held October 16-17. Under the direction of artist Jamal Jenkins, the public is invited to watch murals be created in real-time at three North Nashville locations: 18th Ave North and Herman Street, Buchanan Street, and Dr. D.B. Todd, Jr. Blvd. The North Wall Fest will also feature poetry, music, food, and other live-arts activities.
In partnership with TEDxNashville, Metro Arts will host TEDx: CREO, a salon-event featuring innovative talks and creative performances that explore how art intersects with race, religion, gender-identity, and social justice in our communities. Saturday, Oct 24, 2015, 6:00 PM. at the McAfee Concert Hall, Belmont University.
Bring the whole family to the Frist for a day filled with creativity, art-making, and exciting performances! Family Festival Day will celebrate the exhibition Ink, Silk and Gold: Islamic Art from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and will feature activities that span the geographical and cultural diversity of the Islamic world. Free Family Festival Day is Sunday, October 18 from 1:00–5:30 p.m.
