Some happenings in the GNA [Greater Nashville Area] you can get involved in to quench your thirst for the visual arts this April include The First Saturday Art Crawls downtown and in the Wedgewood/Houston districts Saturday, April 2. There’s a cool Star Wars thing that day downtown as well. The following Friday, catch new art at Haynes Gallery and the Centennial Art Center. Here’s what you need to know.

During First Saturday Art Crawl Downtown on April 2, 6pm – 9pm, The Arts Company presents The Art of Fashion at The Arts Company, an exhibition showcasing four diverse artists, including Michael Nott’s Betty Series; John Petrey’s fashion sculpture; and Lauren Ross’ Fashion Sketches and Attitude. The Performance Platform in front of The Arts Company features Fashion Designer Eric Adler’s latest fashions and Eric will preview Nashville Fashion Week, April 5-9.

Tennessee Star Wars Collectors Club – Celebrate! unites Star Wars fans with gaming, toys, collectibles and more Saturday, April 2nd from 5-10 pm on the bottom floor of the historic Bennie Dillon building, 700 Church Street.

“Trunk Trading” in the lot on the corner of Church and 7th. Experienced players will demo and teach vintage Star Wars board games & modern games like X-Wing and Imperial Assault. Well-behaved children are allowed, and there will be door prizes, and a raffle at 8:30. Femtrooper Julie will do photo ops, and The Ultimate Entertainer, John Pyka, will podcast live at www.bigdaddycoolshows.com

At Wedgewood/Houston, see Kathleen Holder’s Okeanos and Peggy Root’s Love of Place, at David Lusk Gallery, 516 Hagan Street. Afterwards, check out Rachel Bubis and the folks at Seed Space, 1201 4th Ave South, Ste 131, for the closing of The Crappy Magic Experience from 6 pm – 11:30 pm. Inspired by David Hellams’ Crappy Magic magazine, play with a strange treasure-trove of items and make your own #crappymagic images. Friday, April 8 offers two amazing choices. “Embracing the 80’s and 90’s, I loved the music, the movies, and the catch phrases of the era,” says Sandy Spain. “This exhibit gives you an insight to the music that inspires me as I express my thoughts to canvas. Usually quiet late in the still of the night.” Join her April 8th from 5 pm to 7pm to open her exhibition “Songs and Stories” at Centennial Art Center, 301 – 25th Ave North.

A contemporary artist unlike any other, Teresa Oaxaca’s colorful neo-Baroque figurative paintings, in “Teresa Oaxaca: Exuberance” open to the public April 8 from 5 to 7:30 pm at Haynes Galleries Nashville on the Roundabout. Oaxaca (pronounced wa-HAH-ka) will also lead a discussion on her unique work during an Artist’s Talk on Saturday, April 9 from 10 am to noon at the gallery.
