Watson Grove Missionary Baptist Church (WGMBC) will host its 20th annual Community Praise Outreach Picnic on Saturday, October 1, from 12-4 pm at Edgehill Community Park. This year’s picnic will feature the Music City Community Court Expungement Clinic and Pro Se Indigency Saturday Docket with Judge Rachel Bell from 9 am-2 pm, carrying over into the start of the Community Praise Picnic.
“The Community Praise Picnic is an event our congregation looks forward to hosting every year because it meets one of our core values –outreach in the community we serve,” said Rev. Faison. “We intentionally share the love of Christ in our community, city, and culture. Being involved and engaged in our own community allows Watson Grove to serve as fertile ground for the growth of God’s people in South Nashville and beyond.”
Including the Expungement Clinic and Pro Se Indigency Saturday Docket with Judge Bell is one way WGMBC takes the initiative to improve the quality of life for the community. The expungement clinic is an opportunity to clear criminal records that can present obstacles when applying for getting jobs, homes or other opportunities. The clinic is made possible with the support of public officials in addition to more than two dozen volunteer attorneys and law students, who donate their time to help participants sort through the legal issues.
“Anytime we can bring the courthouse to the community I know we are breaking down barriers and really helping people move on with their lives. This is true justice reform,” said Judge Bell. “Justice does NOT stop at the courthouse steps.
During this event, the Edgehill community is invited to praise and worship with Watson Grove, while enjoying free food, activities for children and local vendors. Community resources and social service entities, along with a clothing drive will also be available. Attendees are asked to bring clothing to donate so that those in need may receive, once sorted and processed by Watson Grove’s Outreach Ministry
