Legacy Makers presents their third annual “Power of WE: Women Entrepreneurs” luncheon entitled “Nashville Trailblazers with Michelle Hernandez-Lane.” The event is Tuesday, April 24 from 11 AM – 1 PM in the Vince Gill Room at Belmont University, located at 2000 Belmont Blvd, Nashville, Tennessee 37212. The event, hosted by The Maynard Group and Nashville nonprofit Legacy Makers, is open to the public, and you are encouraged to participate.
Michelle Hernandez-Lane is the first woman of color named Purchasing Agent to lead the Procurement Division of the Metro Finance Department. She oversees bidding, contracting, and procurement efforts in Nashville, including expanding the capacity of small, minority, and women-owned businesses that compete for city contracts. Hernandez-Lane will deliver a keynote address then participate in a discussion with a panel of entrepreneurs and business leaders to discuss triumphs, barriers, and their outlook for the future.
Joining Hernandez-Lane for the panel discussion are four phenomenal women (alphabetically): Stephanie Beard, former principal owner, Remnant Management Group; Kate Herman, market president and publisher, Nashville Business Journal; Page Turner, principal broker / owner, EGAP / E-GAP – Elite Real Estate & LIFE-Changers, International; and Tanaka Vercher, Chair, Budget & Finance Committee, Nashville Metro Council.
The luncheon provides opportunities for attendees to network and hear from some of the most successful businesswomen in Music City. In its second year, the luncheon included three amazing panelists and entrepreneurs from multiple industries. More than 150 women entrepreneurs, business-women, and supporters were in attendance last year, as reported in the PRIDE.
“This event strikes a personal chord with our team because it celebrates the accomplishments of extraordinary women in business right here in Nashville,” said Shawntaz Crawford, Executive Director of Legacy Makers.
Some might ask the question: why do we need an event like this? Here are a few answers:
(1) In a 2015 study, the Nashville Chamber’s Research Center found that there are 4,756 women-owned businesses in the Nashville area. These businesses employ over 41,000 workers and contribute more than $1.6 billion to the local economy. These entrepreneurs have stories that will benefit all who attend.
(2) The financial website WalletHub listed the greater Nashville area, including Franklin, as the number one best metro area for women-owned businesses. Nashville is an excellent place to start-up a business.

(3) Local women in business say networking and mutual support help them thrive in businesses. This event is open to business owners, professionals and leaders. This setting is ideal for networking.

The Power of WE: Women Entrepreneurs Luncheon event will refuel, inspire and energize everyone who attends. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated in the form of a scholarship to a Jack C. Massey College of Business, Belmont University student. Additionally, $450 will be donated in the form of event tickets for 10 students to attend.
