On Monday, Amqui Elementary School students and teachers, nonprofit leaders and local artist Andee Rudloff, unveiled a mural in the street to reduce the speed of drivers and increase pedestrian safety around Amqui Elementary School.

After being awarded a grant for this innovative project from Zendrive, Walk Bike Nashville held a design charrette where the use of tactical urbanism to solve neighborhood traffic problems was explored. Walk Bike Nashville, in partnership with Nashville Civic Design Center’s action arm TURBO Nashville and local artist Andee Rudloff, then organized the painting of the mural and the installation of traffic calming features with Amqui students and teachers.

Students also designed yard signs that are displayed in the neighborhood.

Since 1998, Walk Bike Nashville has sought to make active transportation an option for all Nashvillians, no matter where they live or where they’re trying to go.

“We want our sidewalks and bikeways to support active living, additional commuting options, and recreational opportunities,” said Walk Bike Nashville officials. “We use a mix of educational programs focused on safety and skills and membership outreach focused on advocacy to pursue our goals.”
