The Nashville Fire Department stayed one of the busiest fire suppression and emergency medical response agencies in the country in 2019.
In 2019, NFD received more than 126,500 calls for service for incidents. That is compared to just more than 120,300 in 2018 a five percent increase year over year.
During 2019, NFD also had a large increase in fire responses. Response equals the total number of equipment responding to an incident.
For example, one incident is a call at 63 Hermitage Avenue. However, response counts all the apparatus that responds to that incident. One incident can have multiple apparatus responses.
In 2019, there were 11,300 responses to fire incidents compared to around 8,600 responses to incidents in 2018. That is a 31% increase.
The EMS division made 121,400 responses to incidents compared to 115,000 in 2018. That is a five percent increase.
The EMS division also made more than 74,800 transports in 2019 compared to 72,800 in 2018, about a three percent increase.
These responses are in addition to the numerous special operation responses, special event staffing, HazMat responses and mutual aid responses.
“Nashville-Davidson County is growing, and we are seeing the result in our calls for service.” NFD Director Chief William Swann said. “Our more than 1,200 personnel work 24/7/365 to respond to all these calls for help and provide the best care possible. In 2020, we will continue this commitment while we work to increase staffing.”
