“Then I returned, and I saw vanity” [self-admiration, self-love and self-regard]. Once again I saw that nothing on earth makes sense,” Ecclesiastes 4:7.
There is one alone, and there is not a second meaning. Some people don’t have friends or family, neither child nor brother—no family to give to or to help. This is loneliness, and with loneliness comes problems. Statistics show that one out of five people has no close friends. When you are alienated, you have the feeling of loneliness. Why is it, that I can’t make friends? Why do I feel that no one likes me? Why do we experience this in life?
Sometimes loneliness can be caused by something else going on around you. One of the major issues which can cause loneliness is mental illness. A lot of mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression can make a person feel very lonely.
Where there is mental illness, one will excessively work, eat, drink, do drugs, have sex, and so much more.
Solomon said that a person without family or a friend will never be satisfied with anything they own. For there is no end for all his labour, neither is his eye satisfied with his own riches. Why? The answer is the presence of loneliness and mental illness in one’s life. Do you work to have more, but have no one to leave it to or have no one to share it with? All of this causes vanity, travail, low self-regard, pain, and physical or mental exertion. This results in being tormented, having extreme pain, distress, and suffering of the mind and body.
This is why the writer says that two are better than one. For they have a good reward for their labour (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
Ask yourself if you have someone in your life that will be there for you and you will be there for them? Open your heart to receive the love and power of God, and watch how easily communication and interactions with others become second nature.
Know today that with ‘divine providence,’ God will always be there for you—to lead and teach you the way of inheriting earthly friendship and healthy relationships with others as you grow and mature in His divine nature.
