This month has quite a few options for getting out and enjoying the sporting life. I’m going to touch on three of the dozens, if not hundreds of options you have in the merry month of May.
You can check out a few art exhibitions. I stopped by the one at Zeitgeist Gallery this week, and it is awesome! “This Place Between Us” is the second of two group exhibits guest curated by Evan Roosevelt Brown, and will be on display through Saturday, May 25. Exhibiting Artists are Ashley Larkin, Shabazz Larkin, Cat Pena, Nick Pena, Brittney Boyd-Bullock, Jamond Bullock, Britney Brown, Evan Brown, Christa Collins, Beau Allen Collins, Metanoya Z. Webb, and Christopher LaTouche. They are open 11-5 Thursday – Saturday and 12-8 on first Saturdays. Open by appointment only the rest of the week, at 516 Hagan St, #100, Nashville.
Red Arrow Gallery announced “To Til a Seed,” a dual presentation from artists Keith Jackson & Desmond Lewis will be opening on May 18th. The exhibition will contain four oil paintings depicting sharecropping and tenant farmers from Jackson’s Southeastern Missouri upbringing and a site-specific installation ‘cotton-picker cab’ enclosing a small church pew, with illegally tinted-windows and sermon-laden audio, from Desmond Lewis. The pairing of these artists work comes on the heels of their time spent together at the prestigious Skowhegan Artist Residency program where the two met in 2022 and soon acknowledged their similarities in person and practice, although nearly three decades apart in age. Nashville Repertory Theatre’s final show of their season is POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, a funny and fiercely feminist farce by Selina Fillinger at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center from May 10 – 19. In this hilarious comedy direct from Broadway, the women of the White House show us who’s really in charge. When the President of the United States spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven women he relies on must risk everything to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. POTUS is a biting satire that highlights the challenges faced by women in positions of power and the absurdity of contemporary politics. POTUS features a cast of Nashville Rep favorites including Lauren Berst, Tamiko Robinson Steele , Rachel Agee, and Kris Sidberry.
The Nashville Kats (1-1) host the Philadelphia Soul at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at Nashville Municipal Auditorium, 417 4th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37201 The Tailgate Party Starts at 12:30 p.m. and Doors Open At 1:30 p.m. for the Mother Day’s home encounter. Over 5,700 fans witnessed the Nashville Kats season opener April 27, a 47-12 triumph over the Minnesota Myth in its return to the Arena Football League. If you can’t be there in person, check out the game broadcast on 102.5 FM The Game starts with the pregame show at 2 p.m. The Kats will next host the Georgia Force on Saturday, May 18 at 3:30 p.m. in Clarksville, TN.
