Families across Nashville are invited to take part in a day of outdoor fun, fitness and community engagement at the 17th annual Kids & Kites Day, set for Saturday, May 2, at East Park Community Center.
The longtime community event, founded by former State Sen. Brenda Gilmore and Lois Winston, will run from 10 am to 2 pm at its new location, 600 Woodland St. Organizers say the event continues its mission of promoting healthy lifestyles while raising awareness about childhood obesity and diabetes.
“This is always a fun day for kids to come out, stay active and enjoy a safe environment,” organizers said in announcing this year’s event.
Now in its 17th year, Kids & Kites Day has become a staple for families, combining entertainment with education. The event will feature more than 15 community vendors, along with activities designed to encourage movement and healthy habits. Attendees can expect kite flying, music, games and interactive wellness opportunities.
Trustee Erica S. Gilmore is partnering on this year’s event, continuing her family’s longstanding commitment to the initiative.
Vendors will begin setup at 9 am, with activities opening to the public at 10 am. Parking will be available on-site.
The event builds on years of success, where families have gathered to enjoy free activities while learning about the importance of physical activity and overall health. Organizers say the goal remains simple: create a fun, welcoming environment where children can be active and families can connect.
Kids & Kites Day is free and open to the public.
