Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance celebrates 25 years of partnership with lectureship led by institutional leaders and special gala event

The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance celebrates 25 years of transformative collaboration, advancing health equity, innovation, and education through research, community engagement, and impactful partnerships for underserved communities.

The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance (MVA) marked a momentous milestone this week celebrating 25 years of transformative partnership and collaboration with a reflective lectureship and special gala event. The events honored the extraordinary work and commitment of the MVA in fostering relationships between Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and the community. Over the past quarter-century, the MVA has become a pioneering force for health equity, innovation, and collaboration, focusing on improving health outcomes for underserved communities through groundbreaking research, education, and programs.

The Dr. Clifton K. Meador 3rd  annual Lectureship, themed ‘Reflecting on 25 Years of Cross-Institutional Partnership’ took place at The Henry A. Moses Ph.D. Alumni Hall located on Meharry’s campus, featuring a roundtable discussion moderated by MVA Executive Director Dr. Karen Winkfield, with the following esteemed institutional leaders:

  • James E.K. 
  • Jeffrey R. Balser, M.D., Ph.D., president/CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center
  • Consuelo H. Wilkins, M.D., MSCI, senior vice president for Health Equity & Inclusive Excellence, Vanderbilt University Medical Center

The event highlighted the successes, lessons learned, and future goals of the MVA, which has been a trailblazer in fostering collaboration across institutions to promote healthcare innovation, diversity, and community outreach. As a key part of the program, leaders shared insights on the evolving role of partnerships in shaping the future of medical education, research, community engagement, and healthcare delivery.

The following evening, the MVA celebrated 25 years of partnership with a special gala on November 14, with distinguished guests, including leaders from the healthcare and academic sectors, community advocates, alumni, and supporters of the MVA.

Guests enjoyed an evening of elegant dining, entertainment, and reflections on the profound influence of the MVA in bridging gaps in healthcare and advancing health equity. The sold-out event will served as a testament to the enduring partnership between Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center and their shared commitment to improving health care for all.
