World AIDS Day, observed on December 1 each year, is an annual call to action, where humanity unites against HIV and AIDS around the globe. The first World AIDS Day took place in 1988, providing a platform to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and honor the lives affected by the epidemic. It serves as a solemn commemoration for those who lost their fight against the disease and a beacon of hope for those living with HIV and AIDS by heralding victories such as enhanced access to treatment and prevention services.
You are invited to help celebrate the occasion locally, as two special events of note are planned to highlight and observe World AIDS Day in Nashville. An event at Wesley Mortgage Club by Street Works is Sunday, December 1 and a free luncheon honoring Rev. Edwin C. Sanders II is Tuesday, December 3.
“Tackling HIV/AIDS and Promoting Harm Reduction: A Game Time Event” is Sunday December 1, from 11:30am – 3:30pm. Street Works is partnering with the Tennessee Titans to focus on combating HIV/AIDS and promoting harm reduction strategies, all while raising awareness in our community. They will honor Sam MacMaster for his unwavering advocacy and significant contributions to the fight against HIV. Street Works has been breaking down barriers since 1997 when its Founder and Executive Director recognized unaddressed obstacles to accessing HIV care in communities devastated by poverty, homelessness and addiction.
This event offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, learn from experts in the field, and engage in meaningful conversations about these critical issues. The Wesley Mortgage Club, at 1 Titans Way Nashville, TN 37213, located at the north end of Nissan Stadium, is the Titans’ most popular interior space. This club includes two built-in bars, two large video walls, 22 mounted TVs, access to the stadium seating bowl, free WiFi, and two separate lounge spaces. The 5th Annual Rev. Edwin C. Sanders II World AIDS Day Luncheon, hosted by MashUp! and sponsored by Gilead Sciences, will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at East Park Community Center, 600 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37206. This annual luncheon pays tribute to World AIDS Day by honoring Nashville’s leaders and advocates who have demonstrated unwavering dedication to HIV/AIDS care and support. Edwin C.
