“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son,” John 3:16.
What do you think God sees when He looks at us? What do you suppose is going through His mind as He watches you and me? When He sees our selfishness, our apathy, our bickering, our prejudice, and our pettiness—what is He thinking when He sees this? He created us, and He knows what is taking place within us. But we do not know what He is seeing. When we do a selfish act or pass along pain, is He angry and condemning? If we rise above ourselves and aid and assist someone (doing good for someone, and being a blessing to someone), is He applauding us?
Each person has a different understanding of what they think God sees. That is because everyone projects onto God his or her own feelings of what they are thinking. There is an assumption of how the Creator of the universe views us, our world and what we accomplish in it. As a people we have only an assumption, a belief, a notion, a theory, and a guess of the way we view God.
Many psychologists have suggested that a person will project the personality of their own father or their mother. If the parents are kind and gentle, they will be kind and gentle. If their parents were mean, distant, and disapproving, the child would feel the same way towards others.
We have all heard from some pulpits and TV evangelists who say that God is collecting all our mistakes and is ready to punish us with His wrath and judgment when the times is right. Although we have Jesus, the ‘Second Adam,’ The New Covenant, The Lamb of God, and our Redeemer. God is going to get us. That is what many have said.
“For God has given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given Him. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth,” John 17:2-3.
If God is waiting on the right time, then why did Jesus take on the punishment of our sins on the cross unto Himself to reconcile us back to the Father?
“Without the shedding of blood, there are no remissions of sin,” Hebrews 9:22.
In the Synoptic Gospels we see how the nature of Jesus was revealed during His ministry. His words and actions tell us exactly how He sees us and how He thinks. How does Jesus see you? Jesus sees us with the eyes of compassion, with eyes of forgiveness, and with eyes of love. Jesus did get angry at one point, but He was only angry at the self-righteous who did not have compassion for the ordinary man and woman. He was angry with those religious leaders who did not care for humanity but cared only for their own good. Their inability to see with the true ‘Eyes of God’ preventing them from seeing the Light of the World.
Seeing with the eyes of God is to see everyone as Christ sees us—with agape (unconditional) love. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” John 3:16. Generous, unconditional love shines the Light of God within you to the world. This enables us to see with the eyes of God beyond limits. Although, it takes more than just the knowledge of Jesus’ life and teachings to see through the Eyes of God. It requires the Holy Spirit, our helper, because the Holy Spirit is the One that speaks of the truths of God and reveals all wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to those who walk in the Spirit.
When we see with the eyes of God, we are seeing a reflection in the lives of everyone that honestly believes in exemplifying the love of Christ. Challenge your vision daily in every experience of your life so you can see with the eyes of God and watch your life glow.
