The National Museum of African American Music will host an evening of conversation and reflection with Ras Baraka — acclaimed poet, educator, and community leader — on Thursday, April 24th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
Baraka, widely respected for his work at the intersection of art, activism, and education, has dedicated his life to community empowerment and social justice. Before becoming Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, he served as a teacher, principal, and grassroots organizer, using both his pen and his platform to advocate for equity and transformation.
As a spoken word artist and cultural voice, Baraka brings a unique blend of artistry and leadership to the national stage. His stewardship of Newark has led the city to become a national model in community safety, affordable housing, and progressive governance — demonstrating what’s possible when justice and creativity drive public service.
This special event offers the Nashville community an opportunity to engage with a visionary leader whose work continues to inspire change across the country.
