Davidson County Clerk Sharon W. Hurt is marking her first 30 days in office with efforts to reduce processing backlogs, improve customer service and provide more information to the public about the office’s workload.
One of Hurt’s first priorities has been addressing a backlog of dealership license plate transactions. When she took office, the backlog was approaching five weeks, according to the Clerk’s Office.
Hurt said employees have since made significant progress processing outstanding transactions and improving service for dealerships and their customers.
“Our first 30 days have been about listening, identifying where our customers need us to improve, and taking action,” Hurt said. “We are committed to making the Davidson County Clerk’s Office more efficient, accessible and responsive. Reducing the dealership backlog is an important first step, and we are focused on sustained improvement.”
Longtime customer Steve McClure said he has noticed a difference in the office since Hurt took over.
“I have been doing business with the County Clerk’s Office for many years, and I can tell there is a different level of service since Sharon Hurt took office,” McClure said. “The process is moving. The communication is better, and customers are being treated with a greater sense of urgency.”
The Clerk’s Office is also launching a new Service Transactions Dashboard on its website to give the public a clearer picture of the volume of services handled by the office.
According to the office, it processed 544,909 service transactions between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2026.
The dashboard will provide ongoing information about the office’s workload and services as part of Hurt’s effort to make the department’s performance more transparent.
“The people of Davidson County deserve an office that works for them,” Hurt said. “We want our results to be visible, measurable and accountable. I am proud of what our team has accomplished in our first 30 days, and we are just getting started.”
The Davidson County Clerk’s Office handles vehicle titles and registrations, marriage licenses, business-related services and other services for Davidson County residents and businesses.
Hurt said the office will continue working to reduce backlogs, modernize operations and improve customer service.
