On Saturday, November 19, Nehemiah Missionary Baptist Church will hold an Indigency and Expungement Clinic at the Boys & Girls Club located in the middle of the MDHA Andrew Jackson Community.

The clinic will assist offenders with the ability to file a motion on the spot to be heard by the court. If declared indigent (without sufficient income to afford a lawyer for defense in a criminal case) court cost and fines are waived providing the ability to proceed with filling out expungement applications to clear a criminal record of cases that were dismissed with or without cost.

“The goal of the expungement day is to bring the courts to the community,” said the Reverend Thomas Hunter, pastor of Nehemiah Missionary Baptist Church. “We are purposely putting it in the middle of one of our low income communities where a high percentage of the residents may be dealing with fines and issues that could possibly be expunged by the court.”

The clinic is part of the General Sessions Music City Community Court, Division VIII (8) founded by Judge Rachel L. Bell in 2012.

Registration will be from 8-10 am and will be limited to the first 100 persons that register.
